Dong Shr

On September 21, 1999, at around 2:00 a.m., a massive earthquake measuring 7.3 on the richter scale hit the middle regions of Taiwan followed a couple of weeks later with two 6.8s and a 6.9. We had just arrived two weeks prior to this incident. Some 4000 people were killed in the tragedy and over a 1000 high-rise buildings went down. Our church very quickly went to the rescue in one of the hardest hit towns in the mountains called Dong Shr. Below you can see pictures of one of the trips where Dave was able to go with the Evergreen group to perform a Christian worship concert.

This is one of the tent cities. Above you can see a condemned building that has a crack all the way down the left side.

More of the tent city

The roof collapsed on this building during the earthquake.

This is a building that part of it's foundation collapsed. Demolition has begun on the back of the building.

Same building, different angle.

Vicky and Darryl setting up for the concert.

The lot behind the van used to house three buildings that went down durning the earthquake.
